Circuit Radio Calls

In preparation for starting to make radio calls next mission, I’ve been told to learn the radio calls used in the circuit at Lilydale. So, here they are.

Taxiing runway 18/36 [for circuits, for Training Area etc]

[Turning] downwind runway 18/36
Lilydale

Base Call
Lilydale Traffic
Jabiru 5231
[Turning] base runway 18/36 L/R
Lilydale

Final Call
Lilydale Traffic
Jabiru 5231
[Turning] final runway 18/36 L/R
[Intention – for touch & go, for full stop etc]

Clear of Runway Call

It’s going to be interesting to see how I go trying to fly and talk at the same time!

One Response to Circuit Radio Calls

  1. Julien says:

Hey there! The best piece of advice I was ever given in relation to radio calls was the following: the format is always the same: YOU ME WHERE WHAT. First you say who you are talking to (Lilydale Traffic), then who you are (Jabiru 5231), then where you are (horizontal position AND vertical (altitude)) and finally what you want to do (turning final, etc.) There are exceptions, such as readbacks in controlled airspace, but in a CTAF you can’t really go wrong with that.
